My Favorite Question When I’m Overthinking

A few weeks ago, I shared something personal in my newsletter. It had to do with my tendency to overthink things instead of tuning in to what I already know. I shared something I created that serves as a really helpful prompt and reminder—an image I use as the lock screen wallpaper on my phone. It apparently resonated with many of my readers that I felt compelled to write about it in my blog too.

It’s only recently I began to create personal lockscreen reminders. Sometimes they serve as affirmations, sometimes reminders, sometimes inpsiration. I find I rotate through various version, and then come back to favorites.

The one I'm going to share with you today is one of these favorites and I come back to it a lot.

A mini backstory: as you may know, I am always experimenting with new skills, behaviors, mindset, and energy reset techniques—ever learning more about health and nutrition. At times it comes through in what I write about, or what I shared with clients and students. I don’t go to extremes, but I’m what some might refer to as a kind of “biohacker.”

The thing is, I can become so interested in learning and collecting information—some might call it data—that I neglect to trust myself at times.

It’s not so much that I doubt myself—it’s that I sometimes forget to ask myself a couple of really important questions. Ones that bring me back to center, like:

“If I had no data, what would my body/spirit say right now?”

and

“Do I need proof, or do I need permission to trust what I already feel?”

Asking myself these questions brings me back to myself. I generally realize that I do know the answers.

These types of answers help me make choices that are aligned with my values, priorities and needs. They also tend to be aligned with the essence of my goals. Sometimes I even learn more about my goals - or realize I’ve been on the wrong track. I can pivot.

I have learned that answers or responses to this type of self-inquiry lead to a feeling of connecting with my own center, being grounded, less reactive.

Here’s the lockscreen I’m presently using. You’re welcome to use it too!

You can also see and download it here. You’ll also find different instructions related to different devices.

I hope you enjoy many moments of calm and self-trust this week! Thanks for reading. – Denise
