How Kindness Creates Resonance: A Reflection

We all have our little escapes. Mine have certainly varied over the years — I bet yours have too. And in the spirit of mindful consumption, I sometimes pause to reflect on why I’m drawn to the things I’m watching or reading.

I’ve become fairly obsessed recently with the videos shot by a couple who travel the world documenting their travels. They’re just an ordinary couple, curious about the world with the love of travel. It started out as just watching a video here or there. The YouTube algorithm seemed to think that I would like it! I kept returning to the channel and became engrossed in the unique vantage point of this couple.

They are young – he’s like 31 and she’s 27 now. They’ve been married for 11 years and he has a background as an engineer and she has a background as a hairstylist. What really got my attention was some videos of their time in China where they visited and filmed many of the largest cities in China. It was so eye-opening for me.

I found it refreshing, to say the least, because I feel rather “landlocked“ here in the United States right now with the intensity of all that is happening in our country. Sometimes it feels like the world is closing in as the narrow angle of our situation can feel so oppressive at times. I have heard many others share the same. So, I travel vicariously.

However, what really got me to keep watching, was not just these intriguing journeys or forays into places like Uzbekistan or North Korea, or the coldest city in the northern hemisphere, Yakut, Siberia! But the attitude of these two people.

Most telling, was a comment they made to each other as they were getting ready to leave for the day on some outing in China, where they were making sure that they had everything they needed for the day. Money, passport, and good vibes. That really stayed with me, the good vibes part.

I haven’t done it yet, but I feel inclined to put a sticky note on my front door that says remember to bring your good vibes. Most of us who have traveled know what it’s like to have a day when you’re in a bad mood and things start going from bad to worse, and sometimes the attitude that we bring to even the frustrating or difficult or scary situation can make all the difference.

This is my big takeaway, and it’s also deeply rooted in the principles of hypnosis and my beliefs about human connection. When we radiate kindness and compassion, we create a resonance that invites others to rise to their best selves.

I’ll link a few of my favorite videos by them here that were particularly eye-opening. These are places I dare say I will never travel. For a variety of reasons, so I’m grateful to get to see some of the world this way — for example, one of the most closed off countries in the world, Turkmenistan or, one of Europe’s east visited countries, Moldova.

If you’re at all curious, I encourage you to check it out, but regardless, I hope that you will remember to bring your own good vibes as you prepare for the day and go out into the world.

Because honestly, the attitude we carry can change everything — especially in uncertain or overwhelming times.
